Clash shows PML-N immaturity: Siraj
LAHORE : Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq criticised the leadership of PML-N and said a political party that had been in power for four decades was still immature enough to shamelessly confront judiciary and was threatening the accountability institutions only to save a corrupt individual.
Addressing the opening session of the two-day leadership workshop of JI office-bearers at Mansoora on Saturday, the JI chief said it was unfortunate that instead of curbing corruption, the government was patronising the corrupt officers, and the Punjab government had convened a cabinet meeting to protect the corrupt bureaucrats. The heads of Jamaat-e-Islami district bodies from all over the country along with their deputies and secretaries are attending the workshop which would discuss the preparations for the coming elections and take stock of the JI’s Corruption-Free Pakistan drive.
The Jamaat-e-Islami drive against corruption began exactly two years ago, on February 24, 2016, with a press conference by Senator Sirajul Haq.
Sirajul Haq said it was the legal and moral duty of governments to wipe out corruption from the institutions, but, unfortunately, the rulers were doing just the opposite to the amass wealth and to protect the colleagues and officials involved in corruption. Sirajul Haq said JI was striving for the supremacy of Islam in the country through public support.
He said JI believed in a change through the ballot because a change brought about by force never proved lasting.
He said a meaningful change could not be conceived without eliminating corruption. He said the present system of oppression and exploitation could be wiped out only with public support.
He said said JI was against terrorism of any form and by anyone.
However, he said, dubbing patriotic groups and welfare institutions as terrorists and taking punitive action against them under the US and Indian pressure was undesirable and against the national interest.
