Taking schools to the street

February 24, 2018

Karachi’s famous street school is a source of delight and sadness as well. Although it is positive that somebody has taken an initiative to open a school for street children and made it a success despite so many challenges, it is unfortunate that our provincial government doesn’t have funds and resources to provide education to street children in proper buildings with facilities like running toilets, playgrounds, drinking water and boundary wall.

By opening such schools, children will not get involved in street crimes or get trapped in a drug mafia. Education will make them proud citizens of this country. These children are working hard to get a quality education. Most of them attend classes during morning hours and work in a shop in the later part of the day to support their families. The idea is commendable and the people involved in running such schools deserve praise. At the same time, the availability of funds is a must to run these schools. All of us, including overseas Pakistanis and philanthropists, should provide funds to enable these schools run on a continuous basis.
