Everyone must respect court verdict, says Zardari
ISLAMABAD: Former president and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday said the court has given its verdict and it is the duty of everyone to respect it.
Commenting upon the verdict of the Supreme Court to disqualify Nawaz Sharif from heading the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the former president said confrontation with the institutions of the state will be counterproductive, as it will undermine democracy.
He said it was unfortunate that Nawaz Sharif chose to tread the path of confrontation. He vowed that the PPP will continue to protect and promote democracy and constitutionalism. Meanwhile, addressing a gathering of the party workers here at Zardari House, Zardari said that in the next general elections party tickets will be awarded to the candidates who have the confidence of the party workers.
He said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto were proud of their Jiyalas and he also cherishes Jiyalas of the party. He said Jiyalas offered sacrifices for the party and its leadership.
Zardari instructed the party workers to start preparations for the next elections as the party is destined to form governments in the Centre and provinces. The PPP co-chairman said politics is the name of serving people and resolving their problems. He said Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had said that political heaven is under the feet of the people. He said the PPP leadership never believed in political revenge.
