Wapda edge past Army in volleyball series
MULTAN: National champion Wapda defeated Navy in a hotly-contested second match of the seven match series at the Rajanpur Municipal Stadium on Tuesday. The decisive fifth set of the match was reduced to 15 points Wapda outclassed Navy 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 18-25 and 15-13. Third match of the series will be played at Fort Manro. The match attracted a large crowd for whom it was a lifetime chance to watch their volleyball heroes in action. Thespectators applauded the players who amused them with their powerful smashes, excellent boosting and effective blocking. Younis smashed hard for the winners while Asif and Mohib effectively blocked smashes of their opponents. The Sailors served wrong and their smashes landed out of the line frequently. Wapda players smashed in the uncovered places particularly Asif’s placement of smashes was brilliant. After losing two sets the Sailors bounced back hard winning the next two sets with a convincing margin amid brilliant smashes of Khalid and Abuzar.
Khalid performed brilliantly through his hard smashes. After the match the chief guest President Punjab Volleyball Association and Regional Police Officer Dera Ghazi Khan S. Habib Tajek announced Rs. 60, 000 for the Wapda team and Rs. 40, 000 for the Navy.
Earlier in the opening match played at the Government Boys High School Rajanpur Wapda defeated Navy with a scores of 21-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-20. At close the district council Rajanpur announced a cash prize of Rs. 50, 000 each for both the teams.
