Tajammul World Junior Ranking Tennis begins
ISLAMABAD: Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships started with a big upset when qualifier Wen-Yi Chou (Chinese Taipei) eliminated 7th seed Nishad Kalluri (India) in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at Syed Dilawar Abbas courts on Monday.
All other seeded players won their respective matches. Third seed Arthav Neema (India) struggled to win his match against Mathew Yee (Hong Kong) in a well-contested three set match. Rattanan Siritaworchar (THA) beat Lui Cheng Hsuni (TPE) in another three-set match 4-6,7-5, 6-0.
Upcoming player Muhammad Shoaib (Pakistan) won his match against Ahmed Kamil (Lahore) in three-setter 6-0, 4-6, 6-1. Ahmed Asjad Qureshi (Islamabad) eliminated Cameron Austin Chang of USA in thrilling and entertaining three-set match 4-6,6-4, 6-1. The match lasted 2 hours.
Srujana Payarala of India also displayed excellent tennis and beat Sevval Ozseker (Turkey) without any resistance at the score of 6-0, 6-1. Semra Aksu and Sedef Bilgic (Turkey) was also seen in fine touch and won their matches without conceding a single game in both sets against Pakistani players. Aysegul Mert (Turkey) beat Zoha Asim (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-1 to qualify for quarter-finals. Saleem Saifullah Khan, President Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), inaugurated the championship. Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, President Islamabad Tennis Association, and PTF officials were also present on the occasion.
