Dispute arises over name of newly established tehsil in Bannu

BANNU: The Janikhel Wazir and Hindikhel tribes on Wednesday demanded the government to change the name of newly established Bakakhel tehsil or merge their areas with the Old City tehsil.

The demand was made during a jirga of representatives of the two tribes held here to discuss the issue.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Shudikhel, Malik Waseem Khan, Malik Pir Mula Khan, Malik Mashal Khan, Amir Ghaffar, Talib Khan and others said that they had no issue with establishment of a new tehsil. They said that the Bakakhel name for the tehsil was controversial and unacceptable to the two tribes.

They proposed naming the tehsil as Wazir Janikhel Bakakhel or Janikhel Bakakhel for the new tehsil. They said that great injustices were done to the people of Janikhel and Hindikhel union councils. They said that the new tehsil containing Janikhel and Bakakhel tehsils was established without taking the people of Janikhel in confidence.

They accused Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Transport Malik Shah Muhammad Khan of not taking them into confidence over the matter. They said the move would deprive them of their identity which was not acceptable to them.
