KARACHI: The Federal Anti Corruption Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing in 26 cases pertaining to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan corruption scandal, against former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and others till March 21. The court adjourned the hearing when it was informed that Farooq H Naik, attorney for former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani was out of city and would not be able to make it to the court. However, Yousuf Raza Gilani and other accused were present in the court.
Later responding to media queries, former prime minister said the PPP has nothing to do with the divisions in the MQM and described it as manifestation of the internal politics of the MQM. Commenting on the PTI's defeat in Lodhran election, Gilani said it was the public reaction against Imran Khan's cursing of Parliament. Gilani said he was confident that the PPP would emerge as the countrywide winner in forthcoming general election.
To a question, Gilani said he was not disqualified by a five member bench of the apex court but instead was convicted for 10 minutes. The then speaker Fehmida Mirza had consulted the lawyers and declared that his case did not come under the purview of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, he added. He said it was the then Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry who took suo-mottu action and disqualified him.
