Talal granted one more week to hire lawyer

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday granted one more week to Minister of State for Interior Affairs Talal Chaudhry to engage a counsel in contempt case. A three-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan resumed hearing in a suo moto notice taken against Tala Chaudhry for issuing allegedly contemptuous speeches against the judiciary. Chaudhry appeared before the court and submitted that he had engaged his counsel for pleading his case but she passed away; hence, he needs more time to engage a new counsel. At this, the court allowed him to engage a new counsel and adjourned the hearing till January 19. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on February 1 took suo motu notice of Chaudhry’s ‘contemptuous speeches’ against the judiciary.
