Rs64.2 million to be spent on Sindh Games

KARACHI: A hefty amount of Rs64.2 million will be spent on the Sindh Games which will be held here in the last week of March.A highly reliable source, who has been assigned a key role in the event, told ‘The News’ on Friday that Rs50 million would be given to the organisers by the Sindh government while the remaining Rs14.2 million would be generated through sponsorship.

The source added that the sponsorship money would not be handed over to the organisers in the form of cash, but it would be utilised directly for renovation and other purposes.He said that the competitions would be conducted in fifteen different venues. Over 3000 athletes will be part of the spectacle.

The source said that due to the expected final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on March 25 here at the National Stadium, the extravaganza will begin after a couple of days of the cricket decider. Cricket has also been made a part of the competitions.

The source added that Sindh Governor or Chief Minister would open the competitions, adding Pakistan Peoples Party’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto would grace the closing ceremony. “Bilawal is confirmed for the closing,” the source said.

The PSB Coaching Centre would host both the opening and closing ceremonies.The source said that all the committees have been constituted for the purpose. He said two persons each from the two parallel Sindh Squash Associations have been picked while two each from the parallel Sindh Judo Associations have been taken in the committees.

The source said that Dubai and Umrah tickets would also be given away to the players.This is after four long years that the Sindh Games are being organised in the province. However, the source said that the role of Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) would be nominal.The spectacle is being organised at a time when Sindh would also start its preparations for the National Games penciled in for April 21-29 in Quetta.“Yes, good teams could be formed for National Games through Sindh Games,” the source agreed.
