Islamabad: The 17th Convocation of Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi was held at Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad to commemorate the outstanding academic accomplishments of its students.
Chief Guest Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, Governor of Punjab and Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University, conferred degrees to 1,409 students including 2 Ph.D., 124 M. Phil, 456 Masters and 827 Bachelors. Over 60 Gold and Silver Medals were also awarded to the students having distinction in their respective program. Sponsored gold medals were also awarded by ‘First Women Bank Limited’, ‘Media Development Trust Mishal Pakistan’, ‘Pakistan Foreign Office Women Association’, and in the memory of Qudrat Ullah Shahab, while the Bank of Punjab awarded cash prizes.
In her welcome address the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir congratulated students and their parents, and wished them a prosperous future. She admired the students honoured with medals for their dedication and outstanding achievements in their academic career. She also highlighted the achievements of the university since last year, both in expanding the facilities and infrastructure along with addition of two new undergraduate programmes in Anthropology and Sociology and M. Phil programmes in Computer Science, Islamic Studies and Mathematics.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the achievements of faculty members as well such as the completion of Post-Doctorate of two faculty members from Harvard University, USA and Queen Mary College, University of London, UK respectively. Also, five faculty members have joined back after completing their PhD from different parts of the world.
In his address, Chancellor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana said that the foremost responsibility of universities is to produce well-informed, motivated and cultured citizens. He stressed the importance of working together to take our state forward on the path of inclusive growth and development. While addressing the students, he urged them to carry forward the mission of Fatima Jinnah. Stressing on the importance of women education, he said that well-educated mothers are universities in themselves. He especially encouraged the Vice Chancellor and her team for achieving the national goal of coping with unemployment by offering quality education to highly competitive young females. He also lauded the valuable contributions of teaching faculty and parents for supporting students in acquiring higher education. Referring to the construction of academic block in City Campus, the Governor assured complete support from the Government of Punjab for this project.
