PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursdaysought comments in the appointment of principal of Edwardes College, Peshawar.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Muhammad Daud Khan put on notice Board of Governors through its secretary, Search Committee for Appointment of Principal through its convener Rasul Jan, Vice-Chancellor of University of Peshawar, newly appointed Principal Edwardes College, Brigadier (r) Nayyar Firdous and Bishop of the Diocese of Peshawar, St. John Cathedral, Peshawar.
The bench sough replies in the writ petition of Malak Naz, a candidate for the post of principal Edwardes College Peshawar, who had challenged the appointment of Brigadier (r) Nayyar Firdous as Principal of the Edwardes College.
Naveed Maqsood Sethi, counsel for the petitioner, submitted that the petitioner is the former associate professor of English in Islamia College, a former principal of University Public School and ex-director of Institute of Education and Research, UoP. He had applied for the post of the principal after the government advertised the position.
He submitted that the Edwardes College, Peshawar, is a reputed educational institute of the province and has been serving the cause of education since 1900.The counsel said the institution is an autonomous body and its affairs have been managed by the Board of Governors, comprising governor of the province as its chairman, the Bishop of Diocese of Peshawar, provincial education minister, both as the vice-chairman and principal of the college as secretary/member.
