One killed in Hyderabad explosion
SUKKUR: At least one person was killed and two others were injured in a blast near the Sui Gas Office on the main Qasimabad Road, Hyderabad, on Monday.
According to Qasimabad’s deputy superintendent of police, the blast occurred in a garbage dump, where a scavenger—who was pulling out waste—died on the spot, while two others were injured.
Hyderabad SSP Peer Muhammad Shah informed the media that a man named Jeewan Bheel had identified that the scavenger was his brother Bachayo Bheel. The SSP said that the deceased was rummaging through the garbage when something exploded, which resulted in his death. He said that further investigation was underway, adding “either it was a remote controlled bomb or a hand grenade blast.”
To identify the intensity of the blast, he said that they would further examine the materials recovered from the scene, including ball bearings, nuts and bolts. Eye witnesses said that they heard a sudden blast and when they rushed towards the site, they discovered a dead body over there.
Meanwhile, the shops and other business activities completely shut down in the Qasimabad town, following this development. Later in the evening, the bomb disposal squad’s official told the media that it was not a grenade blast. He added that investigation was underway to examine the nature and extent of the blast.
Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies and police cordoned off the area as the blast had created panic and fear in the area. The Sindh chief minister, home minister and IGP Sindh have taken notice of the incident and ordered the Hyderabad DIG to furnish a report in this regard.
