Mardan District Council witnesses rumpus
MARDAN: The district council on Monday witnessed rumpus over the issue of not allotting seats to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl candidates on opposition benches, opposition leader’s speech and a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member’s remarks against the deputy commissioner.
The district government called the council meeting to discuss the issue of Asma, a minor girl from Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan, who had gone missing nine days ago and later her body was found in a sugarcane field.
The meeting was convened, with district naib nazim Asad Ali in the chair. District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar, besides others, was also present. JUI-F member Maulana Amanat Shah criticised the district government for not allotting seats on opposition benches. The JUI-F members boycotted the council meeting but other members convinced them and made them join the meeting again.
Later, PTI member Wajid Khan used harsh works against the deputy commissioner of Mardan and alleged that the official was involved in corruption. Another PTI member Sher Bahadur started arguing with Wajid for using harsh words against the deputy commissioner. However, other members of the house resolved the dispute between the two PTI members.
Earlier, Himayatullah Mayar in his speech thanked the chief minister and others who visited the house of Asma and expressed their sorrow with the bereaved family. He added the police arrested more than 200 people and tortured many during investigation. He demanded the immediate arrest of the killer(s).
The nazim also demanded the government to appoint educated, talented and trained officers in the investigation department. He said due to the poor investigation, majority of the accused were released in different cases.
