Army, WAPDA excel in National Boxing Championship
KARACHI: Boxers from Army and WAPDA did a fine job in the quarter-finals of the 36th National Men’s Boxing Championship at the WAPDA Sports Complex in Lahore on Monday.As per details of the third day’s competitions till filing of this report, in the 49kg quarter-final, WAPDA’s Mohibullah defeated Army’s Mohammad Saeed to make it to the semi-finals.
Earlier, in the other quarter-final of the same class, Mehroz Ali of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) got the better of Eid Ullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In the 52kg quarter-finals, WAPDA’s Ameer Hamza defeated Police’s Bashir Ahmed, Army’s Syed Mohammad Asif outgunned Hamid Hussain of Sindh, while Noor Ali of Railways overpowered Mian Uzair Saeed of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the 56kg quarter-finals, Naqeebullah of WAPDA breezed past Sher Baz of Railways, Army’s Mohammad Raza defeated Mohibullah of Police and Afzal Rehman of K-Electric whacked Ahmed Afridi of Sindh.
Similarly, in the 60kg quarter-finals, Balochistan’s Mohibullah shocked Navy’s Sheraz, international Niamatullah of PAF got the better of Gul Mohammad of Police, international Ali Ahmed of WAPDA outsmarted Ashraf of Railways. In the 64kg quarter-finals, young sensation Suleman Baloch of Army got the better of Navy’s Qadir Khan, Adnan Hasan of PAF defeated Hamza Khan of Gilgit Baltistan and Sardar Mohammad of WAPDA whacked Naqeebullah of Balochistan to qualify for the semi-finals.
In the 69kg quarter-finals, WAPDA’s Amir Khan defeated PAF’s Mohammad Amjad, Army’s Gul Zeb outgunned Muneer Ahmed of Navy and Punjab’s Ehsanullah defeated Shah Mohammad of Railways.
In the 75kg quarter-finals, Navy’s international boxer Tanveer Ahmed outshone Faisal Khan of K-Electric.Meanwhile, in the 1st National Women’s Boxing Championship, Kulsoom Bano of Punjab, Razia Bano of Sindh, Rukhsana Parveen of Punjab and Memoona Bibi of Balochistan blasted their way into the finals of their respective weight categories.
