Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi: Pregnant womandies allegedly due to doctors’ negligence
Rawalpindi: The family members and relatives of a pregnant woman who died here at Benazir Bhutto Hospital blocked Benazir Bhutto Road in front of the hospital for a while on Wednesday morning alleging that the patient died due to negligence of doctors at the hospital.
A ccording to details, a young pregnant woman, aged 23, was admitted to BBH two days back when she was expecting delivery of her baby. After failing in carrying out normal delivery,, the doctors on duty decided to opt for a caesarean section, commonly known as C-section and administered an injection to the pregnant woman.
After administration of the injection, the pregnant woman went in to shock and later expired along with her baby. The family of the pregnant woman who was going to give birth to her first baby alleged that the injection administered to her by the staff at the BBH caused a reaction and the patient died due to negligence of doctors on duty. The family members also alleged that the doctors when decided to opt for C-section did not take permission from the attendant of the patient.
Later, the relatives and family members of the patient gathered in front of the BBH and blocked Benazir Bhutto Road for few minutes as a protest. The family members blamed doctors for negligence however, on assurance given to them by the hospital administration that a fair enquiry would be conducted into the matter, the family members dispersed peacefully.
“The pregnant woman was waiting for a normal delivery for two days at the BBH but failing in getting any progress, the doctors planned for a surgery and administered an injection to the woman but she went in shock,” said Medical Superintendent at BBH Dr. Arshad Ali Sabir when contacted by ‘The News’ on Wednesday.
He added that doctors on duty tried their best to save the pregnant woman and her baby but failed. “After protest by the family members of the woman, I assured the family members that a fair enquiry would be conducted to find out the cause of death,” he said.
He added that to make a fair enquiry, he wrote a letter Rawalpindi Medical University to Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar suggesting that a committee comprising senior doctors from Holy Family Hospital would be constituted to conduct the enquiry.
“I have suggested that Head of Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at HFH Professor Rizwana Chaudhry, consultant surgeon Professor Dr. Jehangir Sarwar and anaesthetist Professor Dr. Javed Zaheer from HFH should comprise the committee,” he said.
