NOWSHERA: A probe has been launched against the former office superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) who has been accused of harassing the woman staff members.

The Director General Health Dr Ayub Rose had taken notice of alleged female staff harassment at the hands of former superintendent of DHQ Muhammad Khaliq. He had constituted a committee under the supervision of Dr Jamal Akbar to investigate the charges. The committee members visited the DHQ and recorded the statements of the Medical Superintendent Dr Fazal Qadir, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Shoaib, female members of paramedical staff, nurses and the affected maid.

Dr Jamal Akbar said charges of harassment had been leveled against Muhammad Khaliq in the past as well but his co-accused had saved him from any punitive action.

The doctor said during the course of investigation, the team came to know that some staff members had forced the nurses to contract marriages with them and warned others of serious consequences for speaking against their alleged immoral activities at the hospital. He said serious charges had been leveled against Muhammad Khaliq, adding investigation would be taken to its logical end.

Khaliq was transferred and posted in a hospital in Lower Dir after charges surfaced against him. Later, Dr Ayub Rose had ordered investigation into the charges against the said official.
