Court orders medical examination of girl

PESHAWAR: A local court on Monday directed the station house officer of Hayatabad police station to get examined a young girl from medical officer who had been taken into custody by the police claiming that she was mentally retarded and shouting at people. A judicial magistrate directed the police to first get her medically examined through medical officer and then the court will decide whether to send her to women crisis center or not. The Hayatabad police had on Sunday arrested the girl named Sapna on the public complaints that she was shouting at the people and demanding ice drug. The police along with a female constable produced the girl, aged 19, in the court of judicial magistrate and requested the court to send her to women crisis center as she was mentally retarded. The police stated that the girl was homeless.
