Death row prisoner moves PHC, seeks order for admission in LLB
PESHAWAR: A condemned prisoner on Saturday moved the Peshawar High Court to seek an order for the provincial government to allow and arrange his admission in a law college for the LLB course.
Sajjad Ahmad, who has been awarded death sentence and is being held at the Central Prison in Haripur, filed the writ petition through his lawyer Muhammad Khurshid Khan.
In the petition, Sajjad Ahmad said he wanted to be a lawyer if acquitted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the murder case. His appeal against the death sentence is still pending in the Supreme Court.
The prisoner, who is resident of Nowshera, belongs to an educated family, as his three brothers are doctors and one is an engineer.
The petition stated that the prisoner had good record of education during his imprisonment for the last 15 years. It said that during this period he did BA from Allama Iqbal Open University in 2008 and obtained MA degree in Political Science from Hazara University in 2013.
It said that the prisoner also did MA English in second division from Hazara University in 2015.
It was stated that the petitioner wanted to become a doctor but it was not possible for him to get medical education while being in the prison.
The petition said he had now decided to study for his LLB degree and become a lawyer in case he is acquitted by the Supreme Court.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through chief secretary, IG Prisons, superintendent Central Prison Haripur and principal Ayub Law College in Haripur were made party in the
petition.
