Peshawar police foil bid to smuggle arms
PESHAWAR: The local police on Saturday recovered a huge quantity of ammunition in the limits of the Badaber Police Station and arrested six smugglers who were transporting the weapons down the country for terrorism, officials said.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Saddar Circle, Shaukat Khan told reporters on Saturday that the recovery was one of the biggest cases in the province and even country in recent months.
The official said that on Saturday the police got a tip-off from intelligence agencies and conducted raids in Badaber, recovering 274 AK-47 rifles, 76 pistols 30 bore, 7 pistols 9mm, 20 pistols of 38 bore, 11 repeaters and a number of other rifles in Uch Nehr area. The official said around 125,000 rounds of different weapons were also seized.
The SP Saddar, who was flanked by DSP Yasin Khan, SHO Badaber Shehryar Khan, and SHO Inqilab Malik Ahmad, added that the recovered ammunition was placed there to be smuggled all over the country for terrorism. He informed that five accused, including Parvez Khan of Mashokhel, Daud, Jalil, Bakhtiar, Naveed Iqbal and Farman were arrested.
Shaukat Khan said that the police had also recovered 121 rifles and 16,000 rounds from a truck at Saifan a few days ago and the driver had told that the ammunition was owned by Parvez Khan of Mashokhel.
The SP added that in another action, the police recovered 39 pistols from a truck in the limits of the Inqilab Police Station.
