PHF revives several ranking tournaments
KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has increased the number of ranking tournaments by reviving Hazara Gold Cup, Punjab Gold Cup, Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup, General Musa Gold Cup and a few others.
Sources who attended the PHF Congress meeting on Thursday said that the number of ranking tournaments would be 50 in different age groups, including women events. The hockey activities at district, division and provincial levels would be separate and managed by the local associations, they added.
The PHF chiefs informed the Congress members that inter-school hockey and inter Club had been revived in 2017 and would be continued. The sources said that former Pakistan coach Khwaja Junaid, former Olympian Khalid Bashir and KP’s official Zahir Shah strongly criticised PHF’s policies.
They added that PHF Congress comprised 100 members and more than 80 participated in this meeting, which was chaired by PHF president Khalid Khokhar. The members were informed about the developments of the last year and plans for this year, including the visit of World XI for playing two international matches and inviting five world legends to give them Hall of Fame awards. Khokhar and secretary Shahbaz Ahmed informed the Congress members that management committees for World XI matches had been constituted.
