Chitral woman councillors trained in leadership
CHITRAL: Woman councilors from Chitral elected to various tiers of the local government have been trained in leadership to build their political capacity.
The training was conducted under the project “Building Leadership and Political Capacity of Women Elected to Local Bodies.” This capacity building project with eight months duration was sponsored by USAID-Small Grants and Ambassador’s Fund Programme. The Leadership for Environment and Development - Pakistan (LEAD-Pakistan) implanted the project.
Major objectives of this project were to build the leadership and political capacity of women councilors so that they could shoulder responsibilities with enhanced efficiency.
They are able to play active role in the local government system at district, tehsil and village levels for development, implementation and monitoring of the development schemes keeping in view Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act-2013 and Rules of Business-2015.
Up to 151 women councilors out of 217 elected to local bodies from the district, tehsil, neighborhood and village councils were successfully imparted need-based and four days of residential training. The training spanned over a period of three months. The trainees were in 10 batches, each consisting of about 22 women.
The closing ceremony of the project was held at a local hotel. A number of participants from political parties, local government, Chitral Press Club, notables of the area and representatives of civil society organisations attended the function.
