Benazir Tennis: Lopez-Perez, Kristian clinch doubles title
ISLAMABAD: It proved just a cakewalk for pair of Lopez-Perez (Esp)/Kristian Lozan (Rus) in the final of Benazir Bhutto International Future Tennis III on their way to title triumph.
The pair won the doubles beating Gleb Alekseenko(Ukr)/Ivan Ponomarenko(Rus) 6-0, 6-2 in the final that failed to live up to the expectations.
It all started well for the Spanish and Russian pair as they broke one after another serve of Alekseenko(Ukr)/Ivan Ponomarenko (Rus) to go clear, ultimately winning the first set without conceding a single game. Lopez-Perez’s outstanding coverage of the court helped his partner Kristian Lozan overcame his near to net flaws. The Spaniard exceptional performance on the baseline did not give any chance to Alekseenko(Ukr)/Ivan Ponomarenko (Rus) to come closer of winning even one game in the first set. There was even no respite for the pair in the second that saw Lopez-Perez sending in some fast down the line sizzlers. Though the pair of Alekseenko(Ukr)/Ivan Ponomarenko (Rus) managed to hold their serve twice in the second set, there was nothing they could have done to make a match out of the final. “What I wanted was a tough competition in the final. It all turned out to be one-sided affair,” Lopez-Perez said. He said he was waiting for the all important final on Sunday where he would be facing Russian Ivan Nedelko. Air Marshal (rtd) Shahid Hamid was guest of honour and handed over trophies to winners and runners-up of doubles events.
Results: Lopez-Perez (Esp)/Kristian Lozan (Rus) bt Gleb Alekseenko(Ukr)/Ivan Ponomarenko(Rus) 6-0, 6-2.
