BB FUTURES TENNIS: Lopez-Perez, Lozan have it easy in doubles final
ISLAMABAD: It proved just a cakewalk as Spain’s Enrique Lopez-Perez and Russia’s Kristian Lozan beat Ukraine’s Gleb Alekseenko and Russia’s Ponomarenko 6-0, 6-2 in the final to take the doubles title in the Benazir Bhutto International Futures III tennis tournament here on Saturday.
The final, played at the Islamabad Tennis Complex courts, failed to live to the expectations as Lopez-Perez and Lozan completely dominated the proceedings.
The Spanish-Russian pair was put under no pressure by Alekseenko and Ponomarenko as they won the first set without conceding even a single game.
There was no respite for Alekseenko and Ponomarenko in the second set as well. Lopez-Perez and Lozan continued to exert pressure on their opponents with a display of flawless tennis.
Though Alekseenko and Ponomarenko managed to hold their serves twice in the second set, there was nothing they could do to make a match of it.
“I wanted it to be a tough competition today,” Lopez-Perez said after the match. “But it turned out to be a one-sided affair.”
He said he was eagerly waiting for Sunday’s (today’s) men’s singles final in which he will take on Russia’s Ivan Nedelko.
Air Marshal (r) Shahid Hamid was the chief guest at the final and later distributed prizes among the players.
