Two floors were gutted as a triple-story towel factory located in New Karachi caught fire on Friday morning.
As per the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) fire department, the fire broke out inside plot no C-I 166, Sector 6-B, New Karachi, at 8:24am. A fire tender from Gulistan-e-Mustafa fire station at Sohrab Goth was initially sent to the site and later on three more fire trucks were also dispatched.
The fire department’s report says the blaze was put off after seven hours and the cooling process ended at 7:07pm. New Karachi Industrial Area (NKIA) Fire Station Officer (FSO), Abrar Sheikh, said the fire broke out on the first floor of the Rafaqat Textile Mill.
He said four fire tenders took part in the operation, and the water supply to the trucks was made through private water tankers. The FSO said smoke engulfed the burning manufacturing unit which created hurdles for the rescue teams and a firefighter, Ameer Ahmed, fell unconscious during operation. He was taken to hospital and was now out of danger, the FSO added. The cause of fire was yet to be ascertained.
