PAF, Navy, Islamabad win in national hockey
KARACHI: Air Force, Navy and Islamabad won their matches on Thursday at the 64th National Hockey Championships in Sukkur.
According to the information provided by PHF, a brace by Mudassar and goals from Adnan, Mushtaq and Alamgir enabled Air Force to defeat Higher Education Commission 5-3 in an absorbing contest.
For the losing side, Mohammad Abid, Amar Ahmad and Ashar Tariq scored. In another close contest, Navy edged Railways through the solitary goal netted by Hamza Waheed. However, Islamabad gained an easy 4-1 victory over Gilgit-Baltistan. Muneeb scored a brace for the capital side, while Zainulabidin and Umar Mujtaba struck one each. Imtiaz Ahmed was the lone scorer for Gilgit-Baltistan.
Late on Wednesday, WAPDA crushed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited by 4-0. Tauseeq, Asad Bashir, Aleem Bilal and Khizer Akhtar banged one goal each. Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) beat ZTBL 3-2. Mohammad Rizwan had a brace and Ali Shan banged one goal for SSGC. Hammad Anjum and Ghazanfar Ali netted one goal each for ZTBL.
The super ten matches will be played on league basis. Informed sources said that around Rs2 million is the expected prize money of the championship. As much as Rs100,000 will be awarded to the highest goal scorer, the best goalkeeper, and the best emerging player.
