Top teams enter National Volleyball quarterfinals
ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Pakistan Wapda and other leading teams Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Police, Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Pakistan Juniors reached the quarterfinals of the ongoing National Men’s Volleyball Championship at the POF Sports Complex here on Wednesday.
POF gave some anxious moments to their experienced opponents and defending champion Wapda in their last pool match. The hosts smashed hard and blocked their opponents’ moves effectively. They were very close to win the first game but Wapda players toiled their extra sweat to frustrate their attacks. However, the POF boys lost their zeal and interest in the second and third games which they lost by big margins.
Army’s Haider and Zaheer showed their skill of smashing and serving the ball hard to humble Police in their last pool match 3-0. After showing some interest in the first game the Police gave up their fight losing second and third games by big margins.
Results: Wapda defeated POF 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-11). Army beat Police 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-11). Navy tamed Azad Kashmir 3-0 (25-6, 25-8, 25-21). PAF defeated Pakistan Board (25-15, 25-16, 25-18). Police beat FATA 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-14). POF beat Sindh 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-15). KPK beat AJK 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20). Pakistan Juniors beat Pakistan Board 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 17-25, 25-20).Quarterfinals lineup: Wapda vs KP, PAF vS Police, POF vs Navy, Pakistan Juniors vs Army.
