KARAK: Local elders on Saturday alleged that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) employees were hand in gloves with the gypsum factories in gas theft and said low gas pressure was a result of the use of illegal gas by the factories.
Khurshid, Maqsood, Irshad and others told reporters that people were being forced to take to the streets against the low gas pressure in the district.
They said that on the one hand, the company was alleging that people were misusing the natural gas through illegal connections but on the other they had given a free hand to the owners of gypsum factories across the district to steal the natural gas.
They demanded that the illegal gas connections be removed from the factories and gas pressure be increased to domestic users, otherwise they would stage protest against it.
Meanwhile, the police claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle 2,500 grams of hashish and arrested two alleged carriers.
A press release said that acting on a tip-off, SHO of Karak Police Station Sakhi Khan along with a police party intercepted a car (ABW-528) near Karak Toll Plaza and recovered 2,500 grams of high-quality hashish from it.
The police also arrested Janatullah Khan and Haseenullah. They registered the case and impounded the vehicle.
