KASUR: Invigilators and helping staff deputed to conduct Punjab Education Commission (PEC) examinations of class 5 and class 8 snatched first paper from students half an hour earlier than allowed time on Saturday.
Parents and students filed their written protest with the office of EDO (Education). According to applications of Muzamil, Fatima, Umair, Sameer, Shehryar, and Farrukh PEC invigilators put their future at risk by snatching papers from them half an hour earlier without assigning any reason. The Resident Inspector of Government Model High School has initiated a probe on the applications. When contacted, the RI said the staff did it out of a misunderstanding about the time of the paper and a probe has been initiated and education high-ups have taken a serious notice of it. It was the first paper of class 5th and class 8th students that started at 11am and was to finish at 1:30pm, but the students alleged it was snatched at 1pm instead of 1:30pm. It was for the first time that papers started at 11am instead of 8am. It has also been learnt that many invigilators were reluctant to perform duty as PEC offer them very marginal remuneration and they have to come from other tehsils.
EX-SERVICEMAN COMMITS SUICIDE: An ex-serviceman hanged himself over a domestic issue on Saturday in village Khankay Morr in the limits of Phoolnagar police. Jang Sher, who was running a small business in the village, had a quarrel with his family over a domestic issue. His body was found hanging with the ceiling fan of his bedroom.
DRUG PEDDLER HELD: Ganda Singh police arrested a drug peddler on Saturday. Police arrested Rashid Masih, of village Sandha Chistana, and recovered 160 bottles of locally manufactured liquor from his house.
