One-wheeling, speeding banned in Karachi, Thatta
The Sindh government has imposed a ban on one-wheeling, speeding and racing by motorcycles in Karachi and Thatta for six months with immediate effect.
The notification of the ban was issued on Friday by Home Secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez. The provincial government has woken up to the menace of motorcycle racing and speeding by two-wheelers after the December 3 shooting incident in which a teenager lost his life and another was injured.
The notification states: “It has been observed that there is an increasing tendency in youngsters to resort to one-wheeling/over-speeding/racing of motorcycles/bikes on public streets/roads highways, which leads to loss of lives, property, quarrels etc.
And whereas, the Government of Sindh is satisfied that in order to avoid such incidents, immediate measures are needed to be taken.” It further says that in pursuance of Section 195 (1) (a) of the Criminal Procedure Code, the SHOs have been authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of Pakistan Penal Code over violations of Section 144 of the CrPC against violators of the order.
