LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on Wednesday demanded arrest of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Home Minister Rana Sanaullah, claiming that there was enough incriminating evidence in the report government had released on court orders to prove both of them guilty of Model Town killings.
“I can give call to the workers to come out on streets any time and also stage a sit-in, if justice is further delayed,” he said, addressing a press conference along with party leaders Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and others.
Qadri said the influential people – like former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz, Rana Sana and others who had never been presented before courts despite being accused of the Model Town killings – must be arrested.
“Let the law take its course. It would be up to the courts to punish them or release them on bail,” he added. Qadri alleged that the plan of Model Town killings was made by Nawaz and Shahbaz, and implemented by Rana Sana with the help of government machinery, with an objective to prevent him (Qadri) from returning to country and staging protest against government.
He said Shahbaz’s claim of ordering the police to withdraw could not be proved according to Justice Najfi report, adding that neither the statements of Rana Sana nor of the home secretary could substantiate the assertion.
Qadri claimed that the Justice Najfi report had pinned the responsibility of the killings on the Sharif brothers and Rana Sana. He said he had called a meeting of his party’s central core committee to chalk out the future line of action, adding that no decision would be taken in haste and every move was going to be well calculated.
Qadri directed the workers to prepare his container for possible use in near future, adding that he had postponed his plan to go for Umrah and was prepared to give protest call to workers and a sit-in could also be staged, if justice was delayed.
