KARACHI: Improved law and order situation, especially in Karachi, is encouraging more Japanese companies to invest in Pakistan, as currently 83 Japanese companies are already flourishing in the country in various sectors.
Consul General of Japan in Karachi Toshikazu Isomura said this while speaking at a reception hosted to mark the 84th birthday of Japanese Emperor Akihito on late Monday evening.
He emphasised to focus on bilateral trade, which was only $2 billion last year against the high potential on both sides.
“We want to increase trade,” he stressed, and added that with a 220 million population, the country offered good opportunities for foreign investment.
He said Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were playing very important roles in strengthening economic relations and promoting trade between the two countries.
He said Japan and Pakistan always enjoyed good relations and efforts were being made on both sides to further boost trade between the two countries. “Japan always supported Pakistan’s economy including industries,” he remarked.
He said over 10,000 Pakistanis were living in Japan and a similar number visited in 2016. Sindh Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, being the Chief Guest, expressed well wishes for Japan’s Emperor, the government and the people on his behalf and on behalf of the people of Sindh and Pakistan.
