Billboards proving a security risk
From Our Correspondent
JHANG: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) has failed to remove the huge billboards installed around educational institutions and other official buildings even after the directives issued by the Punjab government.
These billboards with stairs are placed along the boundary walls of judicial colony, district courts and the city’s main government girls high schools and colleges. The hoardings were erected by a private publicity firm with the permission of TMA’s administration.
Based upon the security agencies observations, the Punjab Home Department directed immediate removal of hoardings due to security reasons last month but no action has been taken so far and instead the TMA officials started exchanging letters.
Sources on the condition of anonymity disclosed that most of publicity firms were being run by the TMA officials under different names and hence the Home Department’s directives had fallen on deaf ears.
The boundary walls of educational institutions and other sensitive buildings have been raised to eight feet by utilising public funds, but more than eight huge iron polls with stairs made this activity useless and provide an easy access to anyone for entering the premises of female educational institutions.
This scribe tried to get version from the TMA’s Administration / Additional District Collector Babar Bashir but he refused to comment on the issue.
