Dacoit killed in Multan encounter

MULTAN: A dacoit carrying Rs 1 million bounty was killed in an encounter with police near Shujabad on Thursday.
Shujabad police signaled three suspects, but they opened fire on them. The police also retaliated. As a result, one of the three dacoits was killed on the spot while the others fled. The killed dacoit was later identified as Yousaf alias Shakil Dasti alias Shakila alias Kaila. The police also recovered a motorcycle, a Kalashnikov and six bullets from the scene. The killed dacoit was wanted by the police in several cases of terrorism, murder and robbery. Meanwhile, the police claimed that the dacoit was killed by the firing of his accomplices during the encounter.
Mepco officials warned: Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Akram Chaudhry has warned the Mepco officials to improve their performance otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
Addressing a video link conference of south Punjab superintendent engineers at the Mepco Headquarters here on Thursday, he said that there was no room for incompetent officials in the Mepco. He said that new electricity meters and new connection material was available in the Mepco store and all the SEs could obtain it from there. He said that new meters would be installed on the houses of those applicants, who had deposited demand notices in September. The Mepco CEO asked the consumers to lodge their complaints about wrong billing at toll free number 0800-63726. He directed the SEs to take departmental action against SDOs and other officers involved in wrong billing and send a detailed report to him in this regard.
