KARACHI: Former Pakistan player Hayatullah says he is confident that Muslim Trading Chaman can win the ongoing First Naya Nazimabad Quaid-e-Azam departmental tournament which is being played here at KMC football ground.
He told ‘The News’ after his team defeated Sindh press 2-0 in their opening match of the tournament that they had come to win at any cost. He said their first win was a proof of their ambition. He said they would continue to perform well throughout the tournament.
“It doesn’t matter how strong the other teams are. We will try to beat them all.“This tournament has provided a platform to the players after a long gap,” he said.“The morale of the players is high and we will end this tournament on a high note,” he said.
He said that Pakistan football had seen legendary players from Chaman such as Kaleemullah and Abdul Qadeer, two great defenders. He applauded the efforts of the tournament organisers. “Without any government support or any support from PFF they have arranged this event,” Hayat said.
The former Pakistan footballer said their recent victory in the Waziristan football tournament had given them a lot of confidence.Their team also ended as the runners-up in Pak-Afghan Football tournament, which was organised with collaboration of Pakistan Army.
Hayat said that the suspension by FIFA could not diminish the interest of football in the country as more young players from across the country were coming out and displaying their talent.
Hayat said Chaman did not have such good facilities as were available in Karachi. “Otherwise there would be more players coming out from there,” he added. He said that there were no grassy grounds and they were used to playing on sandy pitches which caused many injuries.
