Parties ought to resolve matter peacefully, COAS tells PM
ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday telephoned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and discussed the ongoing situation regarding the crackdown on Tehreek Labaik Pakistan protesters in the federal capital.
According to a tweet by Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, the Army chief telephoned the prime minister, suggested him to handle the Islamabad dharna peacefully, avoiding violence from both sides as it is not in national interest and cohesion.
Earlier, according to BBC, Islamabad High Court judge Justice Shaukat Aziz, while giving remarks during the hearing of the case against Islamabad authorities for not implementing the court order, had said that the impression that secret agencies are behind the sit-in should be no more.
On November 23, the Inter-Services Public Relations director general had said that the agenda of the protesters was religious, and not political, adding that the Army will act on the order of the government in this regard.
