LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central leader Pervaiz Rashid has said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has to prove whether it is the inheritor of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto or a promoter of foreign agenda.
While talking to a private news channel on Thursday, he said that even today the Charter of Democracy (CoD) was still intact. He said that his party sought cooperation from the PPP for on-time elections and civilian supremacy and did not ask for personal or party interests.
Pervaiz Rashid said that now the ball was in the court of PPP and it had to prove whether they were the successors of Z A Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto or a promoter of foreign agenda. He said that his party always talked about taking all the political forces along in the national interest. He asked the political parties to support them for strengthening democracy. Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the PPP should not be afraid of their offer and they expected a democratic response from them. Our correspondent adds: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said the PML-N did not need to strike any kind of understanding with the PPP but the nation would not forgive Asif Ali Zardari, if he hampered the constitutional amendment and the elections on time. In a press talk at the Punjab Assembly, the law minister said the PML-N’s invitation of a grand dialogue was meant for all the parties, not specifically one party, and “if the PPP wishes to become a hurdle in grand dialogue, this stain on PPP will sustain for the time to come.” Zardari has been accused of damaging PPP’s political repute and now he appears to be damaging democracy’s repute in the country, Rana Sana said.
He noted that the amendment bill had been passed in the National Assembly at the right time and if the PPP wanted to oppose that, while misusing the democratic right, they would only be pleasing the anti-democracy forces in the country.
Talking about the PTI chief, he said Imran was an instrument to undemocratic forces for the past four years and would be punished for that by the people of Pakistan in the 2018 elections.
Responding to a question regarding the stimuli behind the Islamabad sit-in of Tehreek-e-Labaik, he said all the institutions, including the army, were on the same page over the Khatam-e-Nubawwat issue. Dismissing any political agenda behind the sit-in, he said the constitutional provision regarding the finality of prophethood was intact and Tehreek-e-Labaik’s demands were merely religious, not political. “However, the state doesn’t approve of disruption created by the sit-in,” he added.
