JI’s drive against corruption not person-specific, says Siraj

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq on Thursday maintained that his party would continue to chase all corrupt persons whose names were disclosed in Panama Papers, saying that their campaign against corruption was not targeting against any individual.
Talking to newsmen on occasion of hearing of his party’s petition in Supreme Court regarding accountability of 436 people who were included in Panama Papers, the JI top leader dispelled an impression that JI’s struggle against corruption was person-specific. “We want accountability of all those whose names were mentioned in Panama Papers as we want across the board cleansing of corrupt mafia. Therefore, it is not proper to say our campaign is directed against any individual or his family,” Sirajul Haq said.
The JI’s two central naib ameers Maulana Asadullah Bhutto and Mian Muhammad Aslam were also present on the occasion. He was hopeful that the apex court would not disappoint them and would hold all the 436 people accountable without any discrimination. “Any corrupt person who is in the government or outside the government will have to be answerable for looted money,” he said, adding that they did not want to humiliate any personality by filing petition in the apex court.
However, Sirajul Haq was of the view that it was their stance that accountability should start from those who were sitting in corridors of power. “Now when the rulers have been trapped for their wrong-doings, it is high time to expand the accountability process without any discrimination,” he said.
The JI leader suggested that one of the best ways to eliminate corruption in the country was that all the corrupt leaders should be thrown out of political parties. “The political parties should get rid of corrupt elements instead of protecting them,” he maintained.
