Dacoits have a field day in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: Dacoits on Thursday took away cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and other valuables in 17 hits here on Thursday.
Two armed culprits snatched Rs 9,000, motorcycle and cell phone from Umair in Khiali police precincts. In Sadr, Wazirabad, Fareed was deprived of Rs 63,000, two cell phones and a locket at gunpoint.
In Sadr, Gujranwala, bandits snatched Rs 1.7 million, four cell phones and gold ornaments from Mohiuddin. In Aimanabad area, robbers intercepted Habib and snatched Rs 30,000, gold ornaments and two cell phones; in Qila Deedar Singh, robbers looted Rs 57,000, gold ornaments and cell phone from Mudassar; at Wahndo, bandits snatched Rs 57,000 and two cell phones from Anjum; in Nowshera Virkan, dacoits took away Rs 40,000, two cell phones and gold ornaments from Shani; in Kot Ladha, Sohail was deprived of Rs 80,000, two cell phones and gold chain at gunpoint; in Sadr, Wazirabad, robbers looted Rs 43,000 and two cell phones from Afzal.
In Tatlewali, some armed culprits intercepted Shahbaz and deprived him of Rs 27,000, two cell phones and gold ornaments; at Sohdra, robbers snatched Rs 110,000, three cell phones and gold ornaments from Latif. Some unidentified thieves took away cash, vehicles and other valuables from the houses and shops of Ishaq, Zahid Hameed, Rizwan and Mansoor. The car of Munir Sheikh and motorcycle of Shahid were stolen from different places.
ACE ARRESTS THREE CORRUPT OFFICIALS: The Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) teams on Thursday arrested three corrupt officials here and registered cases against them. Talking to media, ACE regional director Fareed Ahmed told that Gujrat tax officer M Arif and constable Mohsin Iqbal demanded bribe from a citizen for issuing him the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for his house.
On application of the citizen, the ACE team conducted a raid and held both the officials while allegedly receiving bribe of Rs 6,000.
The second raid was conducted at municipal committee, Pindi Bhattian where computer operator Ansar Abbas was allegedly receiving bribe of Rs 3,000 from a citizen for issuing him the NOC.
NEED STRESSED FOR SPORTS GROUNDS: Former vice president of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), Chaudhry Salahuddin Jamil has said that sports and extracurricular activities play an important role in developing the sportsmanship and team spirit among the children and also make them physically fit and mentally strong.
There is a great need of providing sports grounds and opportunities to the children in educational institutions so that they could polish their physical and mental skills. Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the sports day on Thursday, he urged the students to participate in extracurricular activities for their healthy growth and development.
