Pakistan’s promotion of research culture lauded

Islamabad :Researchers and academicians from home and abroad at the 3rd international conference on Chemistry held here on Thursday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) underlined the need of promoting applied and innovative research that benefits the society.
The conference was organized by the University’s department of Chemistry for bringing together researchers and scientists to share the updated their knowledge and new academic developments in the field of chemistry.
The foreign delegates from Austria, Bulgaria, Qatar and some other countries praised the AIOU for its consistent efforts promoting research cultural in the country. They thanked the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui for providing them an opportunity to interact with their Pakistani friends on recent trends in chemistry.
Addressing the inaugural session, the Vice Chancellor hoped that the conference will be a milestone in their efforts of developing a knowledgeable and learning community. This, he added, is the part of the University’s ongoing efforts promoting collaboration both at national and international level to pass on updated knowledge to their students in the relevant fields.
Keeping ourselves well-versed with the new scientific developments is imperative to achieve the desired results and help the society to address its socio-economic issues. This is third consecutive year that such an event was organized to promote international collaboration for mutual benefits.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui thanked the Higher Education Commission for funding such research-based activities in a massive way. This, he added has proved very helpful in encouraging and motivating the researchers to do the best in their relevant fields.
The key-note speakers at the conference included Dr. Bemhard Krautler, University of Innsbruck, Austria, Dr. Nina D. Dimcheva, the University Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Dr. Jiri Brack from Czeck Republic and Dr. Muhammad Mahroof Tahir from Qatar University. They called for bringing new innovations in the field of chemistry.
During the two-day working sessions of the conference, the participants will deliberate upon topics of Heterocyclic chemistry, medical chemistry, Catalysis, material, computational, polymer and environmental chemistry.
Dr. Shahid SIddiqui also shared with the participants about the recent research academic achievements of the University in giving boost to research-based activities. The researchers were being facilitated through all possible means, like financial support as well as by providing them necessary research data through highly equipped digital libraries’ network, he added.
Earlier, Dean Sciences and chairman department chemistry Prof. Dr. Naghmana Rashid highlighted the objectives of the conference, stating that it provided an opportunity to participants to showcase their research. In addition, it was also a platform to exchange idea, discuss problems, and explore new research opportunities through interaction with scientists and researachers. Later, the Vice chancellor gave University’s shields to the foreign participants.
