JUI-F also chooses new entrants in Senate nominations

Apparently taking a cue from Qaumi Watan Party and keeping in view the prevailing atmosphere of massive use of money, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) has also preferred comparatively little known but affluent candidates to party old guards in allotment of party tickets in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier, QWP had named a new comer to the party Waqar Ahmed Khan due to his experience in winning the Upper House seats in the past. Waqar Ahmed Khan son of Gulzar Ahmed Khan a close aide of slain Benazir Bhutto has switched a number of parties from PPP to PML-Q to PPP and now to QWP clearly to get party ticket for the Upper House.
Apart from Maulana Fazlur Rehman's younger brother Maulana Ataur Rehman both the party nominees for Senate were never members of the party, senior party sources told The News on condition of anonymity. They are Manzoor Afridi who has filed nomination papers on general seat and Sheikh Yaqub a billionaire from Dera Ismail Khan on technocrat seat. The party's senior leaders Maulana Gul Nasib and Maulana Shujaaul Mulk did not file their nomination papers as covering candidates under protest, sources said. Talking to The News Maulana Gul Nasib an outgoing senator said "I am not a candidate on general seat as the party has decided to allot ticket to another candidate and I am sure party decision would be right and in the interest of party". He further stated, "I do not need a ticket whatever party will decide will be good".
An interesting aspect of JUI-F nomination on three seats is that the party has only 17 MPAs in the house of 124 who can elect only one candidate on general seat and naming two is clearly an effort to grab another seat through the cooperation of other parties' members either through arrangement or use of money. The central shoora (consultative body) had in its meeting on February 2 approved senior most party leaders as they were named by the provincial body. However the party decided to allot ticket to Maulana

Ataur Rehman and Manzoor Afridi fresh entrant to the party on two general seats and another new entrant Sheikh Yaqub on technocrat seat while Maulana Gul Nasib was made covering candidate on general seat and Maulana Shujaaul Mulk on technocrat seat.
