Police still trying to nab knife attacker, SHC told

The city's police force is making serious efforts to arrest the accused involved in the knife attack cases and all resources, including technical methods, were being utilised for the purpose , the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) for Gulshan-e-Iqbal submitted in a report presented to the Sindh High Court on Tuesday.
The court was hearing a petition seeking directives to the Sindh Rangers and the Federal Investigation Agency to probe the knife attack cases in Karachi. The petitioner, Atam Parkash, submitted that the police had failed to arrest the culprits involved in knife attacks on several women in the metropolitan. He submitted that the federal government may be directed to intervene in the matter and the investigation of the knife attack cases be transferred to the Rangers.
Filing a report before the SHC, the Gulshan-e-Iqbal DSP submitted that one suspect had been arrested but he was had been on bail due to lack of evidence. He submitted that geofencing of all location of the incident had been thoroughly done for finding any clue that could help in the arrest of the accused. The geofencing data hade further been filtered for finding any specific number found in such locations, he added.
He submitted that 38 suspects were also taken into custody during search operations and they were released after through identification process. He said the mapping of the incidents and human intelligence were also being utilised to trace the accused involved in these incidents.
Requesting the court to dismiss the petition, the provincial law officer submitted it was not maintainable. The court adjourned the matter till December 13 and allowed the petitioner to submit a rejoinder on police comments.
Bridge, school’s construction
The SHC Chief Justice, Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, has directed the Sukkur chief engineer to submit a comprehensive report regarding completion of work at the Shahi canal in Kashmore.
Taking notice over a newspaper’s report regarding non-completion of work at the bridge despite a lapse of ten years, the chief justice directed the Kashmore deputy commissioner and the executive engineer to submit a report along with the details of the allocation and utilisation funds for the construction work.
According to a newspaper’s report, people living in Kashmore and its adjoining districts were facing hardships due to non-completion of the bridge despite a lapse of ten years. The report said the bridge had not been completed by the contractor and after constructing pillars, the contractor abandoned the project without completing the bridge.
Taking notice on a newspaper’s report regarding the dilapidated condition of a school building in Khairpur in which 250 students were studying, the chief justice directed the deputy commissioner and the Khairpur district education officer to submit a report on the dilapidated condition of the government school.
He also directed the deputy commissioner to submit the details of allocation and expenditure funds for the construction and repairing of the school building within one week. According to the print media report, the newly constructed school’s building was in a dilapidated condition as the construction work had been left half done by the contractor due to which students were compelled to study under the open sky.
