Haripur, Bannu prisons to have operational skill centres

PESHAWAR: A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan on Monday discussed the affairs and issues of the Prisons Department and took decisions for improvement of the prison system to facilitate inmates.
The chief secretary directed the Secretary Home to ask the Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) for operationalization of the skill development centres at Central Prison Haripur and Bannu at the earliest, said an official handout.
He was also directed to prepare PC-I for the establishment of Prisons Staff Training Institute at Central Prison Haripur and submit the same up to 30th of this month.
The secretary Finance was directed to allocate the required funds for the repair of security equipment various prisons.
The chief secretary appreciated the efforts for initiating the indoor games amongst the inmates of prisons and desired to manage its extension to all the prisons of the province.
The senior official appreciated the efforts for screening tests and treatment of Hepatitis B & C and HIV with the help of Health Department.
He asked the Home secretary to approach the Health Department for strengthening of the same programme in all prisons.
The efforts for callback system to interviewers in prisons were appreciated. The authorities were directed to submit progress reports of such activities on weekly basis regularly.
Regarding the restructuring of Inspectorate General of Prisons KP, the chief secretary directed the Home Department to move the case up to the 30th November with consultation of Inspectorate General of Prisons.
Meanwhile, the authorities of Home Department and Inspectorate General of Prisons were instructed to complete the promotion cases immediately and fill out all the vacant posts, including that of medical officers as early as possible in accordance with the law and rules.
After a detailed discussion, the Chief Secretary directed the concerned quarters to prepare a comprehensive proposal for inclusion of social work and the same be sent to the government for early consideration and necessary action.
