60 shops, 3 houses gutted in Chitral fire

CHITRAL: Around 60 shops and three houses were gutted when fire erupted at a scrap shop in Drosh Bazaar early Friday.
Speaking at a press conference here, president of the Chitral Chamber of
Commerce Sartaj Ahmad Khan, said that 60 shops, including seven auto stores, 21 workshops, 26 scrap shops and three houses, were reduced to ashes when fire erupted at the Drosh Bazaar due to unknown reasons.
Tehsil Nazim Maulana Muhammad Ilyas, Shad Muhammad Khan, Sher Nazeer and Riaz Hussain were also present on the occasion. He said that the locals and volunteers of the area rushed to the spot and saved residential area from disaster.
Sartaj Ahmad asked the government to provide financial assistance to the victim shopkeepers as they had no other source of income.
“The government should launch Rescue 1122 in Chitral district so that such incidents could be prevented,” he added.
