MULTAN: Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif is likely to inaugurate the New Multan Airport on February 27, said officials on Monday.
They said that the project was launched during former president Pervez Musharraf era but was delayed due to lack of funds. They said that the airport was completed last year but could not be made operational due unavailability of power. Now, the Mepco had set up a grid station to provide uninterrupted power supply to the airport, they added. They said that the project was completed at a cost of Rs 8 billion.
Meanwhile, farm experts observed that the establishment of the airport would boost mango export to 20,000 tons from 10,000 tons from the region. They said that the country could earn $1 billion foreign exchange from mango export. They demanded establishment of a cold storage at the new airport to increase the shelf life of fruits.
