PML-N to act as ‘Great Wall of China’ for supremacy of Constitution

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary party in its meeting on Monday resolved in unison to accomplish the policies and uplift projects envisaged by former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The party resolved to act as 'Great Wall of China' for the supremacy of Constitution and get massive success in the next polls on the basis of its performance and public service.

Premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who chaired the meeting, reportedly said, “Nawaz Sharif is still my prime minister.” The gesture was lauded with a thunder of applause by the legislators who attended the meeting in an impressive number.

The PML-N parliamentary party in its meeting that was held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) adopted a resolution lauding the leadership and policies of former premier Nawaz Sharif and reiterated to continue its efforts to fulfil the objectives determined by him. The meeting felt that the challenges faced by the country could be countered through strengthening democracy, rule of law and respect for the public mandate.

It was noted that in the past, Pakistan had a paid huge price by neglecting these principles. The PML-N was the largest party of the country which had steered Pakistan out of the economic and financial crises, crippling power outages and terrorism by putting it on the path of economic prosperity, peace and stability, the resolution said.

Foundation for a brighter Pakistan was laid down with massive investment in the power sector of the country. Through the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a bright future for the country was ensured. The progress and work on CPEC projects would continue with full vigour and would be completed on time, the resolution said. The PML-N would continue its endeavours for the prosperous future, peace and respect for the public mandate.

The meeting also noted that a few frustrated political figures after suffering repeated setbacks in the democratic arena were out to create confrontation among the national institutions to achieve their negative political objectives.

The party resolved to resist such moves and would not let them succeed. The full house of the parliamentary party yet another time established that the ouster of prime minister Nawaz Sharif has united the ruling party further. 

Earlier, talking to a delegation of members of Provincial Assembly from KP led by Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the PML-N government at federal level firmly believed in the socio-economic uplift of people across the country, regardless of any political consideration. The delegation called on the prime minister at the PMO. He said the federal government had always supported democratic principles with an aim to bring about qualitative change in the lives of the people of the country.

Advisers to Prime Minister Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi, Engineer Amir Muqam Khan and Minister for Narcotics Lt. Gen (R) Salahuddin Tirmizi and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi, were also present during the meeting. The meeting discussed the overall situation of the province, developmental projects and issues, being faced by the people of the province.

Talking about developmental projects, the prime minister said that federal government had been making every possible effort to assist the provincial governments and to undertake projects that cater to the needs of the people, especially in far-flung areas. The prime minister resolved that the developmental agenda of the PML-N would continue unabated.

The participants also raised before the prime minister various issues concerning their constituencies. Prime Minister Shahid Abbasi assured the delegation that the federal government would provide every possible support towards addressing their issues. He also advised the elected members to reach out to people and play their role to redress their issues.

Talking to a delegation of members of the National Assembly from Multan Division the prime minister said socio-economic development of South Punjab was priority of the government and the PML-N government would continue to undertake uplift projects in the area. He said the government had initiated numerous development projects and welfare schemes in South Punjab.

The members briefed the prime minister on development projects and public welfare schemes in their respective constituencies. The prime minister urged the MNAs to work with full dedication and commitment for bringing about a tangible positive change. The premier reiterated that the government would extend its all out support for fast racking development projects in South Punjab. He advised MNAs to reach out to the people especially the poor segments of society and help addressing their issues.

The delegation included federal ministers Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Syed Javed Ali Shah, and Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju. Other members included MNAs Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, Muhammad Khan Daha, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad, Sajid Mehdi, Tahir Iqbal Ch, Saeed Ahmed Khan Manias and Mrs. Shaheen Shafiq. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and senior government officials were also present during the meeting.

A delegation of Christian Community led by Khalil George, Parliamentary Secretary on Religious Affairs separately called on Prime Minister Abbasi. The delegation included among others Bishop Irfan Jamil, Bishop Ashraf Joseph, Bishop Humphrey Sarfraz, Pastor Abraham Daniel, Pastor Imran Fazal, Sister Sosan Sardar and Sister Martha Taj. Kamran Michael, Minister for Statistics, was also present during the meeting.

The delegation felicitated the prime minister on behalf of the entire Christian community of the country on assuming the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Thanking the prime minister for announcing state funeral for late Dr Ruth Pfau, the delegation members said that the honour conferred upon Dr Ruth by the government of Pakistan has encouraged Christian Community to further contribute towards social and humanitarian services across the country.

The delegation apprised the prime minister of issues concerning the community in various parts of the country. The prime minister appreciated valuable contributions rendered by the minority communities of country especially the Christian community in all walks of life. He said that protection of minorities and providing them with opportunities to excel in every field as per their talent and capabilities is priority of the government. He said that the government is committed to promote religious harmony in the country. He said that the government would continue making every possible effort towards addressing the issues faced by the minority communities.

Members of the National Assembly belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) from Jhang Najaf Abbas Sial (NA-91) and minority member Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani had meeting with the prime minister separately. Matters pertaining to development schemes came under discussion during the meetings.
