Shabqadar traders demand compensation for losses due to rains
CHARSADDA: Though normalcy is gradually returning to Shabqadar tehsil in the district that was battered by monsoon rains in the last week, the local businessman have asked the government to compensate them for losses.
The heavy rains had caused flash floods in Shabqadar bazaar and its surrounding villages, leaving three people dead and several injured.
The sudden outburst of the clouds had led to flooding that also damaged houses and standing crops.
The encroachment by the shopkeepers at the Shabqadar bazaar caused the flooding as there was no proper drainage system in place.
The rainwater inundated the Shabqadar gridstation, government offices, banks and other commercial centres in the bazaar that brought routine life to a standstill.
The electricity supply also remained suspended. The communication system was also disrupted that compounded the problems of the local people.
The flash floods also played havoc in Umarzai, Utmanzai, Sarki Tetara, Utmanzai Mera and Mohammad Nari areas where the affected people were seen cursing the government for failing to mitigate their sufferings.
Rahim Shah Bacha, a trader in Shabqadar bazaar, asked the government to compensate the businessmen for their losses.
He said the civic bodies didn’t bother to open the sewerage lines choked up with polythene bags and dirt.
