Gwadar sans water
This refers to the letter, ‘Shortage of water’ (Jul 21), by Asif Abdul Rasheed. The writer has rightly described the problems faced by residents of Gwadar. These people are deprived of one of the basic necessities. The provision of clean and uncontaminated water is a big responsibility of the provincial government. It is unfortunate that it has failed to ensure the uninterrupted supply of water to the residents. The scarcity of water has created a lot of problem for the people of Gwadar.
Residents are left at the mercy of the tanker mafia who are ripping off the residents by charging Rs600 to 800 per tanker. A single tanker doesn’t last for long and it cost a lot to buy water for daily use. Some residents are using sea water for drinking and for domestic use. Sea water is unfit for human consumption until it is further treated. Because of the use impure water, many water-borne diseases are spreading among children. The provincial government is responsible for this situation. It is responsible for the death of innocent children and for the difficulties faced by residents. The water crisis is not new. Residents have been facing this issue for a long time, but the government is silent over the matter. How could CPEC be called a game changer when the residents of the city which is home to a large number of CPEC projects are deprived of basic facilities?
