KARACHI: Wild card entrant Babar Masih registered another victory on the second day of preliminary round matches of the 40th National Snooker championship 2015 here at the Movenpick Hotel on Sunday.
Babar, placed in the Group D, whipped Bahadur Khan of Balochistan in straight frames after having stunned fourth seed Hamza Akbar on the opening day. With a couple of wins in as many games, he has boosted his chances of advancing to the knockout phase, which starts on Friday.
Defending champion and fifth seed Asif Toba, who had succumbed to defeat in his first game in the Group E, came from behind to overcome the dangerous Ahsan 4-2. He fired breaks of 98, 106 and 51 in the last three frames to turn the tables.
The other three seeded cueists in action on Sunday, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Majid Ali and Asjad Iqbal, crushed their rivals.
Shahram Changezi, a former national champion from Islamabad, extended his unbeaten run by overwhelming Farhan Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 4-1. He chalked up breaks of 70 and 88 in successive frames to stamp his authority.
Khurram Hussain Agha, another former national champion, recorded his second victory in as many outings by eclipsing Nouman Iqbal of Islamabad 4-1.
