GUJRANWALA: It is a target of the Excise and Taxation Department to collect Rs 2,000 million property tax from Gujranwala district during the current financial year.
It was told by E&TD Gujranwala Region Director Shakilur Rehman while talking to The News here on Saturday. He claimed that the department had already achieved its more than 50pc target. He hoped that the entire target would be achieved till the end of the fiscal year. He said that strict action would be taken against property tax defaulters without any discrimination. He told that notices were being issued to the defaulters to recover the property tax from them.
MQM PROTEST: Activists of the MQM on Saturday staged a demonstration against the Tatle Aali police outside the RPO Office here.
MQM district president Abdul Karim led the protesters. Abdul Karim told journalists that five armed unidentified persons entered the houses of MQM workers Ashraf, Nawaz and Arif at Maraliwala village and asked them to quit the MQM or be ready to face dire consequences. He claimed that the accused also resorted aerial firing and left the houses. He said that the MQM workers went to the Tatle Aali police station to lodge their complaints but the police did not register FIRs against the accused persons. Later, the police high ups rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that action would be taken against the accused persons. At this, the protesters dispersed.
