Achakzai sent on additional seven-day remand
QUETTA: A local court on Thursday extended the physical remand of a Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) MPA by seven days in the hit-and-run case which led to the death of a traffic police official last week.
Abdul Majeed Achakzai had been remanded into police custody for five days on Saturday after a public outcry over the incident recorded on video went viral on social media and led to his arrest.
The video showed a land cruiser reportedly being driven by the MPA running over the traffic police Sub-Inspector Attaullah standing on duty in the middle of the road near Quetta’s GPO Chowk.
The incident saw a dramatic twist when earlier an alleged agreement letter appeared on social media, showing that the family of the deceased policeman had pardoned the MPA after taking Rs 200 000 and decided not to pursue the case against him.
However, the son of the deceased traffic policeman denied reports of any compromise. “Neither have we reached any agreement nor are we willing to compromise,” said Moazzam Attaullah.
“Ziarat DC Muhammad Rafique came for fateha and to give Eid greetings. He gave us Rs 200 000 as Eidi and gave us a blank paper and asked us to sign and write that we have received the amount for Eidi,” added Moazzam.
“They have taken the signature of my grandfather and uncle by deceit,” he claimed and added that the family would not forgive their father’s killer. “The Supreme Court will avenge our father’s death,” he said.
